- A few data about
the medical surveys led on tobacco
There is no longer any doubt for the physicians or the general public that tobacco represents a factor of very important cardiovascular risk. Numerous medical studies brought the ill effects of tobacco into the light of day very numerous years ago.
Thus, an important American survey has permitted to underline an increase in the cardiovascular mortality of respectively 18% for the man and 31% for the woman smoking 10 cigarettes per day, compared to non-smokers. Moreover, tobacco has been proved as capable of maximizing the harmful effect on the heart and vessels of the other factors of cardiovascular risk. We also know that the cardiovascular death rate is particularly important since the consumption of tobacco is high. Some studies have been achieved to assess the effect of the passive smoking on the cardiovascular mortality: it appears that this mortality is higher in the people exposed to passive smoking compared to those who are not.
