CONCLUSION

Phlebitis (deep venous thrombosis) is an affection sometimes expected in a precise context. In many other cases, it occurs without any encouraging factor.

Two reasons are in favour ofa detection and an early treatment of a phlebitis: the risk of a pulmonary embolism that the physician must dread, and the risk of a post-phlebitis illness.

The research of a deficiency of the coagulation is not systematic but must be undertaken facing a phlebitis without an obvious cause in a young subject, or during a pregnancy.

A cancerous illness should be suspected in an older subject.
