CONCLUSION

The mitral insufficiency can take 2 aspects: an acute mitral insufficiency with a left cardiac insufficiency recognized in its context, and a chronic mitral insufficiency, which most often do not come with symptoms, but justify a regular surveillance in search of a surgical indication.

The surveillance of the mitral insufficiency by cardiac echography, the eradication of the rheumaticfever, the systematic measures fighting against the infective endocarditis and the improvement of the surgical techniques with operative indications put on time have considerably improved the prognosis of the mitral insufficiency.
